OREO Project 2008

Page history last edited by Kimberly Brown 9 mos ago

Our O.R.E.O (Our Really Exciting Online) Project ran from September 29th to October, 2008. Our entire school particpated in Oreo projects throughout the school week. Each morning we listened to Oreo Cookie triva on our morning announcements which was interesting and entertaining.

The O.R.E.O. project was also part of our math classes throughout the week. Our Learning Resource Teacher incorporated Oreo Cookies into her math lessons on estimation. Various classes completed lessons in Oreo addition and subtraction while the grade 6&7 class solved problems using Oreo Cookies. The grade 2&3 class used their class stacking challenge to help them in their data management unit.

The O.R.E.O project was incorporated into many of the week's language art's lessons. The grade 6&7 and grade 8 classes wrote procedures about "How to eat an Oreo Cookie." There was much laughter as various staff memebers attempted to follow the procedures to eat their Oreo Cookies.

A fun part of the O.R.E.O. project was the stacking challenge. Each class held an Oreo cookie stacking challenge. Every student stacked the Oreo cookies as the other students used tallies to count how many Oreos they could stack before the Oreos tumbled. Each class chose an Oreo stacking champ with the winners competing  in the school Oreo stacking challenge at our monthly assembly. The assembly was full of parents and family cheering on the Oreo stackers from pre-k to grade eight. On the last day of the week everyone in the school was asked to wear black and white. What a fun way to wrap up O.R.E.O week! We can't wait to participate next year.
